Objective

The program is complete with transferrable skills and “stackable credentials” designed to help at-risk teens help themselves with an emphasis on both responsibility and compassion.

Program Description

The 18-week curriculum is delivered in three pillars: Horse/Ranch Technical Work Training (care for horses, grounds, business, etc.), Environmental/Sustainability (irrigation, pasture maintenance and composting), and Life Skills Project-Based Learning (collaborative work, accountability, and leadership). The nurturing, family-style program enables emotionally-challenged teens to thrive and succeed, as they are surrounded by support.

“It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.”
Frederick Douglas

This real-life experience has a 2:1 participant/staff ratio to ensure every intern is given adequate instruction and encouragement. Currently, the Raising the BAR internship program has a graduation rate that far exceeds the national average. Recent studies demonstrate the largest segment of jobs available in America is in agricultural-related industries. The intern alumni program enables both former and current interns to connect via the web and through annual reunion events furthering their relationships and support of one another.

“Learning how to be a team player and also how to work independently is something I’ve gotten out of the program.”
Delshawn, Raising the BAR Intern
